一、什么是“双语教学”？
双语教学就是在学校里用两种教学语言进行的教学。一种教学语言是我们的母语汉语，另一种教学语言是某种外语，现阶段通常是英语。
中国是个发展中国家，正在崛起，迫切需要提高其国际竞争力；而要提高其国际竞争力，就必须培养大量的双语复合性人材。现在，国际上的主流语言之一是英语。因此，在中国，以英语和汉语为教学语言的双语教学便应运而生。双语教学应以提高英语水平为前提，以加强学科渗透为手段，在条件成熟的学校，逐步过渡到用英语作为主要的教学语言，来教授非语言学科。
在双语课堂教学中，英语使用比例可逐步提高：从英语术语的渗透，到使用30%、50%、70%的英语，乃至几乎全部使用英语作为教学语言，这个过程的快慢将视师生的双语水平而定。
二、开展双语教学有什么好处？
1、对学生——
学生在英语学习中很难接触到专业性较强的学科词汇。如：improper fraction(假分数)，accessory(附件),body rotation（旋转身体）,nitrogen(氮气)，foreshortened figure（透视画法），falsetto(假嗓子)等。至于学科的常用句型，就更少见了，比如：The square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.（斜边的平方等于两个直角边平方之和）。
在实际的双语教学过程中，学生能学会在学科知识的范围里用英语思维。比如：Buoyancy of Water（水的浮力）
还有，如：Let’s do an experiment. You all have a beaker half full with water, a forcemeter, and a 50g weight on your desk. Now please put the forcemeter with the weight hanging on it into the water slowly. Pay attention to the changes that happen to the hand of the foremeter when the weight is half immersed, more than half immersed, and completely immersed. 随着实验的进行， 学生很自然得用英语在思考。 |
